Tharptown tops Cherokee, Hackleburg
Leslie Staggs had a big bat leading Tharptown to an 8-4 win over the Cherokee Indians.
Stags went three-for-three with four RBIs and a home run to power the Wildcats.
Cherokee opened up an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
Tharptown finally got things going in the bottom of the third inning. Taylor Cameron started things off with a single, scoring Harleigh Borden. Cameron scored on a steal of home. Later in the inning Staggs hit a two-run homer with Kyndall Morgan on base to give Tharptown a 4-3 lead.
The Tharptown Lady Wildcats added to their lead in the bottom of the fourth inning when Pamela Saint scored on a fielder’s choice. Borden stole home to extend the lead to 6-3.
Staggs came through again with a double, scoring Alyssa Fisher and Cameron, to give the Wildcats an 8-3 lead.
Cameron went two-for-three with two runs and an RBI. Morgan had a double and scored a run.
Fischer got the win, pitching five innings, allowing four runs on six hits.
Tharptown 6, Hackleburg 3
Tharptown came from behind to beat the Hackleburg Panthers 6-3 Saturday.
The game was scoreless through two innings, but Hackleburg broke things open in the top of the third inning, taking a 3-0 lead.
Tharptown responded in the bottom half of the inning in a big way. With no outs, the Wildcats got back-to-back singles by Cameron and Morgan scoring Borden and Ashton Tharp to cut the Panther lead to 3-2.
Staggs roped a three-RBI double, scoring Alyssa Fischer, Cameron and Morgan to give Tharptown a 5-3 lead. Staggs scored on fielder’s choice to extend the lead to 6-3.
