    Varsity girls grab wins on court

    Addison 68, Belgreen 62

    Belgreen’s Emma Dempsey scored 37 points in a 68-62 loss to the Addison Bulldogs.

    Belgreen and Addison were tied 10-10 at the end of the first quarter; Dempsey, however, got hot in the second quarter, scoring 14 points to help Belgreen soar past Addison to 34-22 by halftime.

    Addison returned the favor in the third quarter, outscoring Belgreen 27-9 to take a 49-43 lead, and held on for the win.

    Kaley Chandler made three three-pointers and scored 15 points. Dakota Green added eight points, and Noelle Willingham tacked on two points.

    Phil Campbell 62, West Point 58

    Four players were in double figures leading the Phil Campbell Bobcats past the West Point Warriors 62-58.

    Caitlynn Mills and Katie Thomas scored 16 points each, while Olivia Taylor and Kenner Scott scored 12 points each to power the Bobcats past West Point.

    West Point led Phil Campbell 15-10 at the end of the first quarter, but Phil Campbell came back and tied the game at halftime 30-30. The game remained tied at the end of the third quarter at 46-46 before the Bobcats gradually pulled away in the fourth.

    Phil Campbell 57, Cold Springs 34

    Phil Campbell dominated the first quarter in a 57-34 win over the Cold Springs Eagles.

    The Bobcats were hot on both ends of the floor early, jumping out to a 20-1 lead over the Eagles after one quarter of play. Phil Campbell led 32-13 at the half and 47-25 at the end of three quarters.

    Mills led Phil Campbell with 16 points, followed by Faith Cook with 12 points.

    Others scoring for the Bobcats were Olivia Taylor with nine points, Madison Branch and Katie Thomas with eight points each, and Kenner Scott and Trinity Thomas with two points each.

    Tharptown 50, Athens Bible 22

    Gracie Montgomery hit four three-pointers on the way to 16 points to lead Tharptown past Athens Bible 50-22.

    Tharptown jumped out to an 18-10 lead in the first quarter and led 24-16 at the half.

    The Wildcats extended their lead to 36-22 in the third quarter and held Athens Bible scoreless in the fourth quarter on the way to the easy win.

    Jaiden Gaston followed Montgomery with 12 points. Autumn Montgomery added seven points and six assists. Sarah Mansell had six points, Savannah Romans four points and Macy Petree three points.

    Belgreen 60, Tharptown 53

    Eighth grader Dacota Green and senior Emma Dempsey combined for a come-from-behind effort to lead Belgreen to a 60-53 win over Tharptown.

    Green made four three-pointers and scored 20 points, while Dempsey added 19 points.

    Tharptown led Belgreen 17-13 at the end of one quarter of play. The Wildcats clung to a 34-29 lead at halftime. Belgreen outscored Tharptown 31-19 in the second half to pick up the win.

    Noelle Willingham added 11 points for Belgreen, followed by Kaley Chandler with seven points and Madison Vandiver with three points.

    Sarah Mansell led Tharptown with 16 points, followed by Jaiden Gaston with 11 points. Gracie and Autumn Montgomery scored eight points each, followed by Kaitlyn Simmons with six points and Kyndall Morgan with four points.

    Vina 56, Brilliant 38

    Abbie Mitchell led the Vina Red Devils to a 56-38 route of the Brilliant Tigers Saturday. Mitchell led the way with 23 points and 10 rebounds in the early morning game.

    Vina led 19-7 at the end of the first quarter, but Brilliant was able to chip away a bit to cut the score to 22-13 at halftime. Vina pulled away in the third quarter to take a 38-22 lead.

    Kaitlyn Athey added 15 points, followed by Sara Scott with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

    Hailey Cantrell finished the game with four points, and Abbie Petree chipped in two points.

    Vina 41, Shoals Christian 36

    Vina and Shoals Christian sparred back and forth as the Red Devils outlasted the Flame 41-36 Saturday afternoon.

    Shoals Christian led Vina 11-8 at the end of the first quarter. Vina came back to claim the lead 23-20 at halftime. The Red Devils extended their lead to 35-28 at the end of the third quarter.

    Mitchell led Vina with 13 points. She was followed by Petree with nine points and ten rebounds. Cantrell scored eight points, Scott scored six points, and Athey got five points.

    Vina 44, Sheffield 39

    Mitchell scored 23 points to lead Vina past Sheffield 44-39 Monday.

    Mitchell scored 10 of Vina’s 12 first–quarter points. The Red Devils led the Bulldogs 12-10 at the end of one quarter and extended that lead to 21-12 at halftime.

    Vina held off a second half rally by Sheffield for the win.
