Grand jury indicts for murder
Jerry Mills, of Phil Campbell, was recently indicted by a grand jury for murder.
At the beginning of January, Mills was arrested and charged with murder while he was on an appeals bond for a prior manslaughter conviction in Franklin County. The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call that morning that reported a shooting in Phil Campbell.
According to the FCSO, upon arrival, deputies found Jason Floyd Baker inside the home suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the head. Responding deputies encountered Mills upon arrival at the scene and determined he had placed the 911 call.
FCSO investigators began an investigation into the shooting. A preliminary investigation found Baker had been shot once in the head, allegedly by his roommate, Mills.
If found guilty, Mills could be sentenced to 20 years to life in prison, according to district attorney Joey Rushing.
