FCCT student wins FBLA award

The Franklin County Career Technical Center FBLA chapter had several members attend the state conference in Birmingham April 12-13. They competed in several events: introduction to public speaking, introduction to business communications, introduction in financial math, health care administration, computer applications, computer problem-solving, business law and personal finance – and one student came away with an award for his efforts.

At the awards ceremony, student Dillon Borden received the second-place award in computer applications.

In competition, “I was nervous at first, but after a while the nerves went away,” Borden said. His challenge was to design a spreadsheet, create a database, make a mail merge and construct a PowerPoint, among other things. The objective test, a multiple-choice 100 question test, was one hour long, while the project test, in which Borden used of all the Microsoft Word applications, was two hours long.

Borden will now go on to the National Conference in Baltimore, Md., June 28 through July 1.

“I am very excited. Baltimore sounds like a wonderful place to visit, and I feel it is going to be a lot of fun. I am hoping to be able to place in the national competition as well,” he said.

Borden said that he hopes to pursue a career in computers/technology because he feels he excels in those disciplines.
