Educational concert comes to Franklin County

In today’s technology era, kindergarten teacher Susie Tverberg said children aren’t getting as much physical activity time as they used to. To combat that, she has introduced her class to The Learning Station, a company that focuses on children’s educational music.

The Learning Station was created by Don and Laurie Monopoli and Jan Hrkach. Together they have backgrounds in early childhood education, child development and music, according to their website.

“My kids love the videos and getting to take that brain break during the day,” Tverberg said.

She said the videos and concerts are mostly silly songs and dances designed to get children up and moving.

“He wants the kids dancing and singing with him and being engaged and interactive, especially during the concerts,” she said.

The Learning Station will bring a live concert to Tharptown High School’s gymnasium Dec. 13, performing their Holiday Journey concert from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Tverberg said tickets will be $5 for children and $10 for adults as long as they are purchased before Dec. 1. After that deadline, the price for tickets increases.

“It’s open to all children Pre-K through second grade, even those who aren’t registered at a school yet,” Tverberg said.

Tverberg said she believes The Learning Station is a great resource for teachers and effective with students, which she said is why she wanted to bring a concert to Franklin County – so that everyone would have access.
