Hodges to host haunted hayride

Things will go bump in the night this Friday and Saturday night at Rockbridge Canyon.
In advance of Halloween, visitors are invited to make their way to Hodges for a haunted hayride through the canyon, dubbed Creatures in the Canyon.
“Come if you dare,” said events coordinator Tina Lawler.
Events awaiting those brave enough to enter the canyon include zombies and chainsaw-wielding maniacs – all brought to life by talented volunteer actors.
Hayrides begin at dark each night and leave at staggered times until 10-10:30 p.m. Cost is $10 per person, and each wagon ride can accommodate 10-12 people.
“The canyon itself, at night, is spooky,” Lawler said. “When you add zombies, and chainsaw massacre, and werewolves, and witches – it becomes even scarier.”
The haunted hayride, now in its third year, is Lawler’s brainchild. She’s always been a Halloween fanatic.
“That’s my season,” Lawler said. “I actually had a haunted trail at my house for the community before I got involved in this.”
Lawler said the hayride, which runs about an hour total and leaves out from the camp store in the equestrian park, is family-friendly. Actors – some of whom are part of Franklin County Junior Leadership – are not permitted to touch those on the hayride, and actors tone it down a little when they are alerted that young children are on the ride.
Lawler encouraged everyone to come out early to enjoy face painting and purchase snacks.
