Vina stomps Waterloo, 46-0

By Slade Gilmer for the FCT

Vina used a big play offense and a stingy defense to earn a 46-0 win over Class 1A, Region 8 rival Waterloo Sept. 4.

The Red Devils shook off the mistakes that plagued their season-opening loss to Southeastern, while continuing to display the stingy defense that has become a trademark of the young Vina season.

Vina got on the board early, as Bradley Duncan broke loose on a 50-yard run. Tanner Miller added the two-point conversion to make the score 8-0.

Miller would get on the board with a one-yard touchdown run. The two-point try was no good, and the Red Devils led 14-0 at halftime.

Miller scored on a one-yard run, and the two-pointer made the score 22-0. Austin Harper then added a one-yard TD of his own. Vina tacked on the two-point conversion to extend the lead to 30-0 through three periods.

Duncan added his second long touchdown of the night, this one from 78 yards, early in the final stanza. Miller hit Haden Murray on the two-pointer to give the Red Devils a 38-0 lead. Jacob Lewis added the final TD of the game, and the subsequent two-point conversion made the final 46-0.

Vina improved to 1-1 and 1-0 in Class 1A, Region 8. The Red Devils will step out of region play this Friday as they host the Woodville Panthers of Jackson County.

Woodville won last season’s meeting 41-26.
