Success came to three Russellville High School teams in a big way toward the end of the school year. The Russellville City Board of Education is taking the time to celebrate and honor these students’ achievements, and the community is invited to join in.

The Board will host a reception for the RHS golf, baseball and rocketry teams June 7 at the A.W. Todd Centre from 2-4 p.m.

It’s “an opportunity to come and congratulate the children involved,” said Superintendent Rex Mayfield. “I think it’s important for us as a community to let them know how much we support them.”

A brief ceremony will be held about 2:30 p.m., Mayfield said, to introduce each team member present. The Russellville City Council will present special resolutions recognizing the teams.

Each team will be recognized for its respective accomplishment: the rocketry team, for winning the national Team America Rocketry Challenge and advancing to the next level of competition in Paris, France; the baseball team, for its first place win in the 5A state championship series; and the golf team, for its 5A state championship first place finish.

Mayfield said the community has always supported Russellville students, especially financially, but an event like this is a good way for the students to really recognize that support and how it impacts them.

“These are the people who make it possible for them to have these opportunities,” Mayfield said.
