Two stabbed in altercation between neighbors

A dispute between neighbors turned violent Tuesday night after two men received several cut wounds from a knife during a fight with a Russellville man outside their residences.

Gregory Wayne Presley, 31, 717 N. Jackson Ave., Russellville, was charged with two counts of first-degree assault Russellville Police Chief Chris Hargett said.

According to Hargett, officers responded to a fight call about 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday and were advised there was a subject who had a knife.

Capt. Carey Hitt said that upon arrival, officers saw the subject scuffling on the ground with two other people. Officers also saw the two victims had several cuts.

“We were able to establish that Presley had come at the two victims with a knife,” Hitt said. “Paramedics were called and the two victims were transported to Russellville Hospital. Presley was treated for scrapes he received when he was scuffling in the gravel.”

Franklin County District Attorney Joey Rushing said the two counts of first-degree assault could be upgraded when the case is presented at grand jury.

“The charges could possibly be upgraded to attempted murder based on the location of the stab wounds on the two victims,” Rushing said.

Presley remains in custody at the Franklin County Jail on a $20,000 bond, but according to Rushing, Presley will be held pending a hearing to revoke his suspended sentence in a previous criminal case.

Rushing said Presley pleaded guilty to first-degree criminal trespassing in April of 2010 and received a one year sentence suspended for two years on good behavior and payment of restitution and fees.

“Presley violated the good behavior clause of his suspended sentence by receiving a new charge and he also hasn’t paid the money he owes in that case, so we’ll be requesting he serve out his suspended sentence,” Rushing said.
