26 confirmed dead

The number of deaths from Wednesday’s deadly tornado has climbed to 26.

Franklin County Sheriff Shannon Oliver said that as far as he is aware, there are no more people unaccounted for.

“I have never seen anything like this,” Oliver said.

That number includes fatalities in Phil Campbell and stretching to the East Franklin community.

The number of fatalities could rise, however, because of the number of victims transported to various hospitals across the region. There is not a definite count at this time that includes those individuals.

“I don’t know that we could stand any more,” Oliver said. “This is devastating.”
