Scott sees her future in Franklin County
Editor’s Note: Franklin’s Future is a regular feature spotlighting a high school senior in Franklin County and what they have planned for life after graduation.
Vina High School senior Alex Scott has had fun during the years she has spent as a Red Devil.
The 18-year-old has participated in organizations like the school’s yearbook staff and Students Against Destructive Decisions, and she said she’s had fun being with her friends at events like football games and prom.
Scott said she has also enjoyed some of her classes, which is sometimes a hard thing for a high school senior to think about this close to the end of the year.
“My favorite class was history with Coach Hamilton,” Scott said. “It’s never the same things and he makes history interesting.”
Scott said she would miss her friends when she graduates in May, but there are other things she will miss as well.
“What I’m really going to miss about life in high school is having someone to fall back on because you’re not just out there on your own yet,” Scott said.
Even though she’s a little apprehensive, Scott said she’s ready to tackle college and start pursuing her career.
“I’ve decided to attend Bevill State Community College in Hamilton because it’s the closest to home and I can commute,” Scott said.
And it just so happens that Bevill offers the course of study Scott has had her heart set on since she was a little girl: cosmetology.
“I think I decided I wanted to be a cosmetologist when I was old enough to start playing with make-up,” she said. “It’s just something I enjoy.”
Scott said her mom, Kristi, and her 8-year-old sister, Kayleigh, let her practice on them from time to time and her family is very supportive of her future plans.
“I’d really like to start out working with someone at a salon because I could get experience and help working under someone at first,” Scott said. “Eventually I’d like to have my own business in a shop at the house where I’ll live because I could pick my own hours and I could work anytime I needed to.”
Scott said she plans to still live in the Franklin County area in the future.
“I don’t want to move too far off because I love being close to my family,” she said.
In her free time, Scott said she loves to shop. She also said her father, Greg, has gotten two new horses that she enjoys riding.
Scott said she’ll get a taste of responsibility this summer before starting college because she plans on getting a summer job. She said learning responsibility something she thinks students who are younger should learn early in life.
“It’s important to be responsible and do things like keeping your grades up because it can catch up to you if you’re not careful.”
