Matthew Todd Edwards, age 24, of Haleyville, passed away Sunday, January 21, 2007.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, January 23, 2007, at Pinkard Funeral Home in Haleyville with Greg Reynolds officiating. Interment was in Winston Memorial Cemetery.
Todd is survived by his parents, Doug and Linda Edwards of Haleyville; a brother, Robert Ellis and wife Julie, of Haleyville; and special children in his life, John Robert Ellis, Roby Jackson Ellis, Ashley Woods and Dalton Williams.

Bessie Newell

Bessie Newell, age 95, of Russellville, passed away Wednesday, January 24, 2007.
Mrs. Newell was a native of Franklin County and a member of Blue Springs Free Will Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Newell; a son, Amos Woodall; her parents, Frank and Susanna Weeks; two brothers, Hadley Weeks and Charlie Weeks; and a great-great-grandson, Garrett Kar.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Akins Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. T.L. Pierce and Bro. David Motes officiating. Interment will be in Union Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Newell is survived by a daughter, Dorthy Vinson of Phil Campbell; a daughter-in-law, Letha Woodall Davidson of Phil Campbell; a sister, Dessie Taylor and husband Curtis, of Phil Campbell; a brother, Walter Weeks and wife I.V., of Corinth, MS; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and fourteen great-great-grandchildren.

Ava Dean Stidham Ray

Ava Dean Stidham Ray, age 75, of Hamilton, passed away Saturday, January 20, 2007, at her residence.
Mrs. Ray was born January 18, 1932, in Alabama to Sidney and Bertha Black Stidham. She was a waitress and attended Old Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Hodges. She was preceded in death by her husband, George C. Ray; her parents; and three brothers, Laudie Stidham, Kent Stidham and Hollis Stidham.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, January 25, 2007, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel in Red Bay with Bro. Dewayne Satterwhie officiating. Interment was in Pilot Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Roland Ray, Ted Stidham, Robert Stidham, Daniel Stidham and Shawn Lawrence.
Mrs. Ray is survived by one brother, Jack Dempsey Stidham of Red Bay; one nephew, Louie Stidham and wife June, of Hamilton; one grandson, Roland Scott Ray and wife April, of Hamilton; two great-grandsons, Jacob Ray and Austin Ray, both of Hamilton; many other nieces, nephews and cousins; and a host of friends, including special friends Douglas and Barbara Gober of Hamilton.

Kenneth Odell Thorn

Kenneth Odell Thorn, age 91, of Red Bay, passed away Sunday, January 21, 2007, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo, MS.
Mr. Thorn was born December 12, 1915, in Mississippi, to Nim Rod and Mattie McKinney Thorn. He was retired from Alcoa Aluminum as an inspector after 26 years. He was a member and deacon of Friendship Baptist Church and a member of the American Legion. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-mother, Pauline Thorn; a daughter, Mary Ann Thorn; a grandson, Terry Nelson Thorn; three sisters, Ruthie Keeton, Ela Thorn and O.Z. Mitchell; and two brothers, Ed Thorn and Porter Thorn.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 24, 2007, at Friendship Baptist Church with Bro. Billy Nichols officiating. Interment was in Pleasant Site Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers were the deacons of Friendship Baptist Church.
Mr. Thorn is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lore Thorn; three children, Wilma Inez Rice and husband Jerry, of Lucedale, MS, Manuel Lee Thorn and wife Carolen, of Wellington, OH, and Irene Scherer and husband William, of Grafton, OH; one brother, Floyd Thorn of the Tharptown community; one sister, Paulette Hudson of the Tharptown community; six grandchildren, Teresa Rice, Jerry Rice, Jr., Angela Yaworsky, Michelle Groot, Joe Scherer and Jennifer Drake; and eleven great-grandchildren.

Mary Alice Vinson, age 87, of Russellville, passed away Monday, January 22, 2007, at Russellville Health Care.
Mrs. Vinson was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Byron Vinson.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, January 25, 2007, at Pinkard Funeral Home with Carl James officiating. Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery.
Mrs. Vinson is survived by a son, James Obacz of Calumet City, IL; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Charles Wayne Wilkinson, Jr.

Charles Wayne Wilkinson, Jr., age 38, of Brilliant, passed away Sunday, January 14, 2007.
Mr. Wilkinson was a member of Brock Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Orbie and Velma Burleson and Albert and Evie Wilkinson.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, January 17, 2007, at Brock Church of Christ with Jeremy Hulsey and Drew Manley officiating. Interment was in the adjoining church cemetery.
Mr. Wilkinson is survived by the mother of his children, April Hulon; a son, C.J. Wilkinson of Brilliant; a stepdaughter, Mariah Carlton of Brilliant; his parents, Barbara Burleson Wilkinson of Brilliant, and Wayne and Tammy Wilkinson of Haleyville; three brothers, Ricky Wilkinson of Brilliant, Shane Wilkinson and wife Rhonda, of Brilliant, and Zachery Clark and wife Billie, of Brilliant; two sisters, Latica Overton of Tuscumbia and Krystal Overton of Haleyville; and three nieces, Haley Wilkinson and Santana and Maci Clark.

Essie Arnetta Williams

Essie Arnetta Williams, age 83, of Haleyville, passed away Friday, January 19, 2007, at Haleyville Health Care.
Mrs. Williams was born on June 30, 1923, in Haleyville. She was a member of South Haleyville Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents, Theophilis B. and Minnie Pearl Lauderdale; two brothers, Bob Lauderdale and Warren G. Lauderdale; and three sisters, Inez Addison, Johnnie Faye Turner, and Irene Stults.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, January 21, 2007, at Pinkard Funeral Home with Hayden Childs and Arvy Dupuy officiating. Interment was in Winston Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Williams is survived by her husband, Jack Williams; a brother, Clemon Lauderdale; four nephews and seven nieces; and a host of relatives and friends.
