When Tharptown and Belgreen faced off earlier this month, they made history.
Tonight, they'll have to settle for playing for county pride.
After several years of feeding into Belgreen, Tharptown Junior High became Tharptown High School this year and immediately added an intriguing new rivalry to the local basketball scene.
Belgreen got the better of Tharptown in both varsity boys and varsity girls action when the teams met for the first time ever on November 9, and tonight the Wildcats will be looking for revenge on their home floor.
Belgreen's girls got 14 points from Amy Smith and 13 from Mary Billingham in beating Tharptown 52-33 in the first meeting. On the boys side, the Wildcats raced out to a 14-2 lead before Belgreen rallied to claim a 56-35 win behind 12 points each from Michael Wilson and Lucas Albert.
The Lady Bulldogs enter tonight's game with a record of 3-3 after Tuesday's overtime win at Covenant Christian. Tharptown, fresh off winning the Paint Rock Valley High School Thanksgiving Tournament title, is 5-2.
Belgreen's boys are also 3-3, while the Wildcats will be searching for their second win of the season.
