Pet event not in County, but deserves mention

By Staff
Normally we devote space in the Franklin County Times strictly to events happening in Franklin County. But Saturday in Florence, there is an event that we thought was worthy of some coverage. The information about the event is as follows:
On April 8, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. the Florence /Lauderdale Animal Shelter, Jake's Fund, Ltd., and North Shore Animal League America will host a pet expo and adoption event.
The event will take place at Florence Shopping Mall (Big Lots) on Florence Boulevard in Florence.
A cooperative initiative with animal shelters across the country, Tour for Life helps save pets across America and reinforces the importance and advantages of adopting shelter cats and dogs. Since its inception in 2001, Tour for Life has placed thousands of needy animals with loving families.
Shelter dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens will be available for adoption from the NSALA mobile adoption unit.
In addition to finding loving homes for the animals, this event will inform the public about the many educational and lifesaving services available to the pet guardians of Florence.
Many local shelters and rescue groups, including Colbert County Animal Control, Moulton Dog Rescue, Green Acres Animal Sanctuary, Lawrenceburg Animal Rescue, P.A.W.S. (Pets are Worth Saving), Jerry's Rescues of Tennessee and Huntsville Humane Society will also be present with pets who need homes.
Pet Depot and Pet Works will be present with lots of goodies and coupons for the pets. PETCO will be offering basic obedience and puppy training classes at a discount for the adopters, plus money-saving coupon books.
At 1 p.m., All Animal Clinic will be offering microchipping for your new pet. Crystal Tag Corporation, the microchip maker, will be present to answer questions.
Jake's Fund, one of the event's hosts, will be offering a discount on spay/neuter coupons for low-income residents and rescued animals adopted at the event without a spay/neuter contract.
Tour for Life commenced on March 29. The tour ends with a &#8220Grand Finale” event at FAO Schwarz in New York City on Saturday, April 29.
If you or someone you know is searching for a pet, this seems like the best way to get one that we've heard of. Maybe your family could save a pet's life.
