RUSSELLVILLE - Monday night, the Russellville City Council approved Chad Sears as the next superintendent of the city's Parks and Recreation Department.
Sears had only one regret about leaving his job as a recreation supervisor with the City of Florence to return to his hometown of Russellville.
Sears is currently employed at the Broadway Recreation Center in Florence. He will replace interim parks superintendent John Carter as soon as the City of Florence is able to locate a successor for Sears.
Russellville's Parks and Recreation Department has grown in recent years. The Russellville Sports Center, featuring the pool and tennis complex, the Lee Sports Complex, and the restored City Lake Park all provide area residents with a number of recreational opportunities.
The new parks superintendent graduated from UNA with a degree in recreation and administration. Sears and his wife of five years, Lameka, have a 4-year-old son, Mark.
Sears is remembered by many for his days as a Golden Tiger at Russellville High School.
Sears said he would liked to get started in the new position as soon as possible.
He spoke about wanting his son to grow up in the same community he did.
The first item on his agenda as superintendent will be to organize an activities committee.
Sears stopped and reflected on his new responsibilities.
