News we love to print

By Staff
We've tried numerous times in this space to debunk the myth that newspapers only want to print bad news.
Granted, as we've said before, printing arrests, wrecks and other horrible stories is part of our job, but we love printing good news as well. Evidence of that is our Friday feature called "A Matter of Faith," a weekly feature story with a religious theme written by our outstanding reporter, Jonathan Willis.
But we love good "spot" news (or stories we don't plan) as well.
And what a great story we had to share on today's front page and on page 10.
We look for good photos to run with stories — photos that tell the story on their on, so to speak.
Everywhere you looked Wednesday, there were great photos that told a happy story, a tearful story of reunions with grateful family members and soldiers relieved to be home.
Wednesday afternoon, hundreds of local residents braved foul weather to welcome home our local heroes — members of the Alabama National Guard 115th Signal Battalion.
Tears and raw emotion were on display everywhere as family members embraced their soldiers, and Jonathan captured several great moments as he covered the story.
We said in this space Wednes-day this story is one that you can't cover too much. The deployment and return of our local guard unit has affected our county more than any story in recent memory.
We've done our best to cover the story, but in addition to just doing our jobs, we want to express our lasting appreciation to these soldiers and their families. Welcome home, and God Bless You!
