The Russellville City Council wants to clean up the town.
In Thursday night's meeting, the council approved the hiring of Shannon Oliver and Joe Hargett as patrol officers.
Chief Chris Hargett said he planned to use the two new positions to re-establish a litter patrol officer and a compliance officer.
The litter patrol officer will use inmate crews to clean up trash on city streets, and the compliance officer will be in charge of enforcing city laws against abandoned cars, vacant buildings and tall grass on area lots.
Mayor Johnny Brown said citizens have to work together with police to make the goal of a clean city a reality.
Councilman Burns "Buckshot" Saint said getting the city cleaned up has long been one of his priorities.
