Our View – We have much for which to be thankful

By Staff
Tomorrow is Thanksgiving Day.
Like many of our American holidays, Thanksgiving is commercialized now, with stores having early-bird sales Friday and Saturday, hoping to turn the long weekend into a whirlwind of shopping and spending.
And if you partake in that, so be it. If you choose to spend Friday eating leftovers and watching football, that's fine too.
But take tomorrow and use it for the reason it was designed.
America has a long, unique tradition of setting aside a day especially for giving thanks. Our custom dates back to the Pilgrims, who endured hardships and survived, and celebrated by commemorating one day as a day of thanksgiving to God for helping them through the struggles.
Thanksgiving became official in the 20th century, and now Thanksgiving Day is a part of our culture.
Here in Franklin County, we have much to be thankful for.
We live in a beautiful part of the world. We live in the South, where morals still matter and manners are still in style.
We live in America, in the greatest country in the world, with freedoms that some in other parts of the globe only dream of.
We still enjoy a small-town atmosphere, we care about our neighbors and we worship our God as we choose. We enjoy the precious freedoms of a free press and the right to assembly, and we have good leaders who care about Franklin County.
Enjoy your time with your family tomorrow, and take some time to talk and think about things you are thankful for. It won't take you long to find some, if you look. Our blessings are all around us, and we thank God for all of them. Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at the FCT!
