Our View – Good luck to both teams tomorrow

By Staff
For those in our area that love football — and we know there are a lot of us, it's hard to believe that our two state schools are playing their final regular season game tomorrow afternoon.
Just like the high school football season, it seems only yesterday that Auburn and Alabama were kicking off their seasons in muggy September weather.
But here we are, on the eve of what is still commonly called the "Iron Bowl," despite the game having moved from the city that gave root to that name.
Whether you call it the Iron Bowl, Alabama – Auburn game, or Auburn – Alabama game, there's no denying game is a major annual event in our state. It's "the game" for most folks — the game that causes families to choose sides, friends to take a break from each other for one day, and our passions to sparkle. It's part of our heritage in Alabama, and we're proud of that.
This year's game has a different feel to it, partially due to the different situations the teams are in. Auburn is 10-0 and seeking a national title for the first time in almost 50 years, while Alabama is simply hoping to field enough healthy bodies to make it through the game.
But none of that matters, if you listen to the fans. In a fan's heart, their team always has a chance, no matter the situation. And in a fan's heart, their team will remain No. 1, win or lose one game or hundreds.
Either way you lean tomorrow, we hope you have an exciting day to celebrate our state's unofficial football holiday.
If you plan on making the trip to Tuscaloosa, please be safe. If you're watching it on television with friends, have a good time and take it easy on the fans of the losing team.
It's just a game, after all, even if so many of us treat it as so much more than that.
Good luck to both teams, and enjoy the game!
