Lady Rams drop game to Delta

JACKSON The Kemper Academy Lady Rams couldn't find a way to stop Graham Carson and Megan Green on Friday afternoon in the MPSA Class A State Tournament.
Carson and Green combined to score 54 of Delta Academy's points in a 61-45 victory to help the Lady Raiders move into the championship game at University Christian.
The Lady Rams, now 23-10, will play in the consolation game today at 1 p.m. before entering the Overall State Tournament next week.
Carson scored 32 points for the Lady Raiders in the win while Green scored 22 points to help Delta Academy improve to 43-2 for the season.
Kemper Academy came out ready to play and jumped out to an early lead against the top-seeded Lady Raiders.
Eve Darnell opened the game with a three-point play and added a basket seconds later to give Kemper a 5-0 lead.
After a basket by Green, Kayla Mosley hit a shot and Ashley George followed with a basket to stretch the lead to 9-2.
That was the Lady Ram's final basket of the quarter, however. Kemper went scoreless for the final four minutes of the first quarter and Delta went on a 12-0 run to make the score 14-9.
Kemper broke the scoreless stretch with a basket by Leslie Beach to make the score 14-11.
The Lady Raiders answered with a 12-3 run as Carson scored seven points and Green added five.
Libby Myers hit three three-pointers in the second quarter for the Lady Rams to make the halftime score close at 28-20.
Delta Academy came out strong in the second half and went on a 15-4 run led by eight points by Carson. The Lady Raiders were able to stretch the lead out to 43-24 with the run.
The Lady Rams battled back as Beach scored five consecutive points and Darnell added a basket to cut the lead to 43-32.
Kemper was able to cut the lead down to 10 points at one point in the fourth quarter but in the end Delta proved to be too strong for the Lady Rams.
Delta stretched the lead at the free throw line and moved into the championship game with the 61-45 win.
Myers and Beach each finished with 12 points for Kemper Academy while Mosley added 10.
