HATTIESBURG Senior football standouts Rod Davis and Etric Pruitt can add one more honor to their prestigious careers after being named to the 2003 All-America Team by the All-American Football Foundation.
Davis and Pruitt were among dozens of players honored to the 2003 All-America and Little All-America teams, announced by the Foundation, which has a membership that includes 165 colleges, and the AAFF President, Jimmie McDowell.
Bulldogs move up to No. 29
STARKVILLE On the eve of the start of preseason practice, Mississippi State moved up a notch in the first inseason rankings conducted by Collegiate Baseball magazine.
The Diamond Dogs, who open their 2004 campaign Feb. 27-29 hosting Western Kentucky and Illinois in the MSU Challenge, climbed from No. 30 to No. 29 in the poll conducted by the Arizona-based publication.
Two Eagles named preseason All-Americans
HATTIESBURG Southern Miss relief pitcher Austin Tubb, a 2003 NCWBA All-American and NCBWA preseason All-American, and catcher Brad Willcutt, a preseason NCBWA All-American and a member of the 2003 All-Conference USA team and 2003 NCAA Hattiesburg Regional All-Tournament Teams have been selected to CollegeBaseball-Insider.com's Preseason All-American team as honorable-mention selections.
The online publication named three other members of Conference USA to its preseason team. East Carolina outfielder Darryl Lawhorn was named to the second team, while TCU pitcher Clayton Jerome and Tulane outfielder Brian Bogusevic each earned honorable-mention recognition.

UWA enters top 25 poll
LIVINGSTON, Ala. Following a 4-2 start against nationally-ranked competition, the University of West Alabama baseball team has broken into the Collegiate Baseball Magazine Division II Top 25 Poll. The Tigers made a jump from receiving votes the previous week to being ranked 18th in the nation.
UWA opened the season by taking 2-of-3 from Southern Arkansas. The Tigers swept a doubleheader 8-6 and 6-0 before dropping a hard-fought 2-1 decision. West Alabama then welcomed Columbus State to Livingston, and after dropping the opener 13-6, proceeded to take a pair of thrillers 5-4 and 3-2.
Five players join Ole Miss soccer squad
OXFORD, Drawing from the states of Tennessee, Ohio, North Carolina and Texas, the Ole Miss soccer team has received national letters of intent from five high school seniors for the 2004 season, as announced by Rebel head coach Steve Holeman.
Ole Miss inked two of Tennessee's finest in Cordova natives Cori Mehan and Chrissy Strini. Mehan is a 2003 All-State selection and two-time All-Metro pick at Cordova High School. Strini was named All-State in 2002 and 2003.
Amy Gill comes to Ole Miss from Loveland, Ohio, where she was a 2003 All-State selection and FAVC league Player of the Year at Loveland High School.
Charlotte native Christine Liberto is a forward/midfielder pointed toward Oxford. Liberto helped guide Charlotte Catholic High School to two straight state titles, earning championship game MVP honors in 2002.
Megan Vickery, a 5-foot-7 goalkeeper from Dallas' First Baptist Academy, was chosen for the ODP National Team Pool.
