HEIDELBERG Heidelberg Academy fell short of one of its goals on Tuesday night, but that was the Rebels' only shortcoming.
The Rebels used a balanced attack through all four quarters, holding the Rams to 25 points through three quarters and placing five scorers in double figures. Dusty Bass scored a game-high 21 points for Heidelberg, including 12 in the first quarter alone. Chase Davis had 18, Ryan Yawn and Will Thames each chipped in 11 and Paul Zeagler scored 10.
Heidelberg jumped on Kemper early in the first quarter. A layup from Dusty Bass gave the Rebels their first double-digit margin, a 10-0 lead three minutes into the game. A three-pointer by Bass moments later finished a 13-0 Heidelberg run to begin the game.
The Rebels did not allow a basket for the contest's first 4:25.
Heidelberg's largest lead of the half was 20 points, coming on a Chase Davis three-pointer with four seconds remaining in the second quarter.
It was one of six of Davis' treys.
Bass found Paul Zeagler along the baseline for an alley-oop layup off the glass early in the third quarter that put Heidelberg up 39-16.
Davis' three-pointer with two minutes left in the third quarter gave Heidelberg a 54-20 lead. It looked as though the Rams would slip within 30 late in the third period when Kyle Davis drained a three-pointer with 30 seconds to play in the quarter, but Zeagler hit a turnaround layup with four seconds left for a 56-25 advantage.
Kemper's fortunes were no kinder in the fourth quarter. Davis knocked down a 30-foot three-pointer with 5:40 left, giving Heidelberg a 61-26 lead. After a Rams bucket, Davis drained another three from the corner for a 64-28 Rebels lead.
Heidelberg extended its advantage to 40 points when Davis hit another three-pointer from the wing to go up 70-30 with 2:40 left. The Rebels led by 41 with half a minute to go when Bass drained a 25-foot three-pointer, and coming off a fast break, Ryan Yawn threw down a dunk as the final buzzer sounded for a 46-point win.
