CHOCTAW Coming off big Division 5-3A wins over Forest Friday night, the Choctaw Central basketball teams had the opportunity to run into problems when they hosted Newton on Saturday.
While their respective games might not have been at the level they were 24 hours earlier, both the Lady Warriors and Warriors came away with wins.
The Lady Warriors defeated Newton 73-60, and the Warriors posted a 73-63 victory. The Lady Warriors were coming off a virtually unheard of 119-36 demolition of Forest in which they jumped out to a 42-4 first quarter lead.
The Lady Warriors had an 18-9 first quarter lead over Newton and were up 40-26 going into halftime. It didn't come easy, however.
Newton trailed only 21-14 when Jessica Anderson left the game with a back injury after taking a hard fall with 5:37 left in the first half. In two minutes and five seconds, the Lady Warriors had extended their lead to 31-17.
Choctaw Central led by as many as 20 points in the third quarter.
The 25-1 Lady Warriors got 28 points Chantay Frazier, 13 from Ashley Flint, 11 from Shyatesa York, and seven from Mystee Dale.
Newton, 19-8, got 16 points from Anderson, who returned to action in the second half, 15 from Chotsani Henderson, 11 from Whitney Thames, and eight from Karmarshea Jones.

Choctaw Central led by as many as 13 points in the third quarter before Newton closed to within 57-48 to start the fourth quarter.
After Newton scored the first two points of the final period, the Warriors went on a 10-0 run to go up 67-50 and effectively settle the outcome.
In the run, the Warriors got a reverse layup from Sean Ahshapanek and another layup from Scotty Nickey.
The 22-4 Warriors got 20 points from Nickey, 14 from Ahshapanek, and 13 from Rodgrick Anderson.
Newton, 13-14, got 18 points from Brandon Shelton, 13 from Kolby Tillman, and 12 from Cornelius Caraway.
