Some of Riley Hospital's male employees are having a hard time trying to match their high heels with their dresses not to mention having to color-coordinate their lipstick and nail polish.
But, they are men on a mission and are not afraid to show their "softer side" to help raise money for a good cause.
At least 10 of Riley's male employees have signed up to compete in the hospital's first-ever Womanless Beauty Pageant on Wednesday to raise money for the United Way of East Mississippi.
Glenda Sanders, director of marketing and a member of the hospital's United Way campaign committee, said that the hospital sponsors a fund-raiser to boost its annual United Way contributions from employees.
She said the pageant has required a little work.
Why would a group of typically "manly" men trade in their scrubs and street clothes in order to dress up like women in front of anyone willing to pay a few bucks?
The pageant will be at 2 p.m. in the Riley Cafeteria. It will consist of a modeling portion where contestants show off their outfits; then, they will be asked a question by the emcee. There will be no swimsuit or talent competition.
After all of the contestants have completed their walk and answered their question, the panel of five judges will crown one winner with a tiara.
The competition will be tough as contestants from nursing, administration, radiology, cardiopulmonary, materials management, physical therapy, dietary and plant operations compete for the crown.
