A pedestrian park

By Staff
May 11, 2003
Given the difficulties expressed recently over traffic enforcement at Meridian's Highland Park, especially on weekends, the time may be right for the city council to consider a fundamental change in traffic flow:
Stop it entirely.
Strong arguments can be made for turning the road around the duck pond into a pedestrian-only walkway all the time. This obviously would help protect children from the dangers of vehicular traffic and open the area up to more leisurely exploration by families.
We'd like to see the Parks and Recreation Department examine this option, list the pros and cons and have it brought to the council for a vote. It seems like a logical solution, giving Meridian a true pedestrian park that could appeal to everyone.
