Meridian artist featured in show at Jackson gallery

QUITMAN Services for Peggy Elam Knighten will be held today at 11 a.m. at Pleasant Ridge Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Gary McInnis officiating. Burial will be in Harmony Cemetery in Clarke County. Wright's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Kinghten, 77, of Quitman, died Saturday, March 1, 2003, at University Medical Center in Jackson. She was a member of Pleasant Ridge Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Survivors include her son, Leslie Elam Knighten of Long Beach; step-children, Buddy Castle, Kenny Castle and Wanda Shirley, all of Quitman; a sister, Dorothy Hershey of Gulfport and a special friend, Marilyn Martini of Long Beach; grandchildren, Tim Knighten, Mark Knighten, Jacob Toney IV, Bud Castle, Chad Castle, Jason Castle, Tina McCoy, Jamie Shirley, Stacey Boney, Donna Dearman, Rozanne Evans and Pam Parker; and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Monroe and Georgia McMillian Elam, a brother, W.G. Elam; her first husband, J.B. Knighten and her second husband, O.B. Castle.
Pallbearers will be Stanley Shirley, Bud Castle, Mickey Smith, Gayle Elam, Roger Knighten, and Chad Castle.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Services for Fred Ridout will be held Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at Barham Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Chris Winkleman, Roy Dabbs, and Marcus Finch officiating. Burial was in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Mr. Ridout, 78, of Meridian, died Saturday, March 1, 2003, in his home. He was retired from Graham Mayflower after more than 42 years. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a member of Woodman of the World.
Survivors include his wife, Edna Ridout of Meridian; children, Janis Myers of Fayetteville, Tenn., and Leonard Ridout and his wife, Diane, of Meridian; three grandchildren, Robert Myers, Richard Myers and Eric Ridout; brothers, Earl Ridout and his wife, Helen, of Bailey and Roger Ridout and his wife, Carol, of Biloxi; sisters, Lozelle Reynolds of the House Community and Sybil Files and her husband, Lavertte, of Meridian; several nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Janett Savell Ridout.
Memorials may be made to New Hope Baptist Church Building Fund, Highway 145 South.
Pallbearers will be William Savell, Robert Savell, Jim Savell, Mark Savell, DeWayne Ridout, Rodney Ridout, Johnny Ridout, Justin Ridout and Jack Reynolds. Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Cook, Kenneth Jones, Jackie Robinson, Donald Lewis, Wilbur Moffette, W.L. McAllister, Ross Cheatham, Garland Cheatham and Bruce Morgan.

PHILADELPHIA Graveside services for David Bustos will be held today at 2 p.m. at Hope Cemetery. John E. Stephens Funeral Services Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Bustos, 50, of Columbus, died Saturday, March 1, 2003, in his home.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Bustos of Philadelphia; daughters, Amy Burt of Dallas, and Crystal Bustos of Phoenix, Ariz.; a step-son, Shawn Bozeman of Philadelphia; his father, Robert Bustos of Memphis, Tenn. and his mother, Mary Adkins of Columbus; sisters, Sherry Bruges of Gulf Shores, Ala., Becky Keasler of Brooksville and Shawn Faircloth of Memphis, Tenn.; and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be today 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the funeral home.

NEWPORT,Ark. Services for Mary Alice Britt Latner will be held today at 2 p.m. at Holden Avenue Church of Christ with Paul Evins officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Jackson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Latner, 88, of Magnolia,Ark., formerly of Newport, died Saturday, March 1, 2003, in Meridian.
Survivors include her son, Henry Latner Jr. of Shubuta; six grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be today 10 a.m.- noon at the funeral home.

NEWTON Services for Freda Laird Baucum will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at James F. Webb Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Gressett officiating. Burial will be in Concord Methodist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Baucum, 61, of Hickory, formerly of Newton, died Monday, March 3, 2003, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include her sons, Joseph O'Neil Baucum, James Victor Baucum and John Paul Baucum, all of Hickory; a brother, Robert Laird of Brandon and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifton and Victoria Chaney Laird and a sister, Geneva Hope Nunnley.
Visitation will be today 5 p.m.- 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Graveside services for Alpha Omega Johnson will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Catholic Cemetery with the Rev. Ralph Henson officiating. James F. Webb Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Johnson, 88, of Meridian, died Sunday, March 2, 2003, at Rush Foundation Hospital. She was born in Union.
Survivors include her son, William Hugh Johnson Jr.; a niece, Judy Jones, two nephews, Barry Germany and Lance Culpepper, all of Meridian and a sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Germany.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Hugh Johnson Sr.; and a son, Charles Edwin Johnson.

COLUMBUS Services for Annie Pearl Taylor will be held Wednesday 2 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kevin Devin officiating.
Mrs. Taylor, 68, of Columbus, died Sunday, March 2, 2003, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
Survivors include her daughters, Sandra Parker of Columbus, Nancy Franklin and her husband, Roy, of Vernon, Ala., Pat Jones and her husband, Jimmy, of Fulton, Chris Wilson of Amory, Ouida Baker of Fulton and Sylvia Edwards of Clanton,Ala.; sons, Wallace Phelps and his wife, Janet, of Meridian and Sam Morris and his wife, Cissy, of Prattsville, Ala.; sisters, Josie Lockler of Columbus and Abagail Bolen of Columbus; and one brother, James Williams of Columbus.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur H. Morris, sons, Charlie Rufus Morris and Bobby Dale Bolen; two brothers, Stanley Williams and Brady Williams Jr.
Visitation will be today 6 p.m.- 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
