Kemper jobs

Congratulations are in order for Kemper County economic development officials, who announced last week that a Georgia company plans to open a plant that will manufacture fenders for tractor-trailers and employ about 50 people.
Mike McGrevey, executive director of the Kemper County Economic Development Authority, said Trans Technologies Co. of Acworth, Ga., plans to build a plant in Kemper County within the next 18 months.
He is justifiably excited about the economic development boost to his county, which has taken more than its share of hits recently. He also credited U.S. Sen. Trent Lott with the initial contact that helped land the plant.
While the number of jobs may not be huge, it will help reduce the county's 12.6 percent unemployment rate, which was twice as high as the state average in April.
McGrevey works hard for Kemper County and it's good to see his efforts paying off. Working with Lott's office was also a good move.
