Clarkdale baseball coach Donnie Sylvester wasn't even sure he would be able to use pitcher Luke Gault for the championship game of the Southeast Lauderdale Invitational Tournament Wednesday. Sylvester may now be wondering why he ever had any doubt. Gault came on in relief to save both games for the Bulldogs Tuesday, but showed no signs of fatigue against Southeast Wednesday, twirling a masterful four-hit shutout to lift the Bulldogs to a 5-0 win and the tournament title.
DECATUR Sophomore Theddiaus Robinson looked more like a seasoned veteran on the mound for Newton Wednesday afternoon. The hurler scattered eight hits and two unearned runs over seven innings to power the Newton Tigers to an 8-2 win over the Forest Bearcats in the Newton County Spring Break Tournament. Robinson struck out four and walked none to claim the victory, while also coming through with a single and double at the plate.
