The program honors 24 senior citizens each year for their activities, vitality and accomplishments. People nominated must be Mississippi residents. There are six award categories: Community Involvement, Creativity, Love of Learning, New Beginnings, Good Neighbor and Vitality.

Make a Difference Day set for Oct. 27
Make a Difference Day will be observed in Clarke County on Oct. 27. The Clarke County Chamber of Commerce, the event's sponsor, asks every person in the county to do a random act of kindness for someone that day. This act of kindness can be done for a friend, a family member or a stranger. If you are a recipient of one of these random acts of kindness, please call the Chamber of Commerce at 776-5701.
St. Patrick hosts fall festival
St. Patrick School will host its annual Fall Carnival and Spaghetti Dinner from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. Oct. 27 in the Family Life Center, next to the school at 2700 Davis St.
Admission is $1 each, with a maximum of $5 per family.
The carnival will feature food, games, a costume contest, a haunted house and much more. Spaghetti dinners will be served from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. for $5 a plate. Take-outs are available, and orders of 10 or more plates can be delivered.
Kemper Academy Halloween Carnival
Kemper Academy will host a Halloween Carnival beginning 5 p.m. on Oct. 27 at the school.
There will be a hayride, pre-school costume contest and a pumpkin decorating contest. Concessions and games will be available. Game tickets are 50 cents each.

Saddle Club holds fall trail ride
The Bonita Lakes Saddle Club's Fall Trail Ride will be Nov. 3. Registration will be from 8 a.m.-9 a.m. at the Lauderdale County Agri-Center. The morning ride will be from 9:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Lunch will be served from noon-1 p.m. The afternoon ride is scheduled from 1:30 p.m.-4 p.m.
The gate fee is $15 a person. The cost for children under 12 is $5. Owners must have proof of negative Coggins tests for their horses. No dogs will be allowed on the trail ride.

MMA to hold 2001 Art Auction
The Meridian Museum of Art will have its 2001 art auction at Union Station on Nov. 3.
The event will feature a gourmet dinner, cocktails, live music by Carey Smith and door prizes from local merchants. The auction will include more than 60 pieces.
Tickets for the auction can by purchased individually or by tables of eight at $50 a person. Proceeds benefit Meridian Museum of Art. For information, call 693-1501.
Laurel to hold Main Street Festival
The city of Laurel will hold its 6th annual Main Street Festival from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Nov. 3 in downtown Laurel.
The festival will feature arts and crafts, food, a 5K race, a one-mile fun run and activities for children. Also featured will be a "Best Pie Contest" and a "Low -Fat Cooking Contest."

Causeyville VFD hosts A Day in the Country'
The Causeyville Volunteer Fire Department will sponsor its annual "A Day in the Country" on Nov. 3.
The event will feature a flea market, arts and crafts, quilting, a bake sale, barbecue plates and other food. Entertainment begins at 10 a.m. All proceeds will benefit the fire department.

Items wanted for MLT Variety Shop
Donations are now being accepted for Meridian Little Theatre's Guild Fall Variety Shop. Donated items can include furniture, lamps, dishes, appliances, books and clothes.
Items may be dropped off from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday-Friday. Pickup service is available for large loads and donations are tax-deductible.
The sale will take place Nov. 9-10.
