West girls advance to championship

West Lauderdale girls 63, Kosiusko 28: The Lady Knights earned the right to face Neshoba Central in tonight's Neshoba Central Tournament championship game with an impressive win over Kosiusko Friday night.
West, which improved to 16-4, jumped out to a 20-10 in the first quarter and never looked back.
J.J. Huggins led West with 11 points and nine rebounds in a game in which all twelve Lady Knights scored. Kristina Gardner added nine points.
Tipoff for tonight's championship game is set for 7 p.m.
Bay Springs girls 68, Clarkdale 46: Bay Springs improved to 13-8 with a 22-point win over Clarkdale Friday night.
Carmelita Naylor led the Lady Bulldogs, who fell to 7-14, with 16 points. Tamara Brown and Jord'an Orr each added 11 points.
Kristi Martin led Bay Springs with 23 points. Brittney Martin added 15 points and Quaya Payton added 13.
Bay Springs boys 89, Clarkdale 50: Clarkdale stayed close through the first quarter, but it was all Bay Springs after that.
The Bulldogs, who fell to 9-7 on the year, were led by Richard Matthews with 15 points. Jamie Followay added 11 points and Anthony Holliday scored 10.
Bay Springs, which improved to 9-7, was led by Jason Fort with 24 points. Chad Pruitt scored 15 points and Enos Hamilton added 11.
Late Thursday
West Lauderdale girls 61, Philadelphia 35: The Lady Knights opened play in the Neshoba Central Tournament Thursday with an easy win over the Lady Tornadoes.
West, which improved to 15-4 with the win, got 15 points from J.J. Huggins and 14 from Kristina Gardner.
The Lady Knights led by just six points at halftime, but started the second half with a 19-1 run to help drop the Lady Tornadoes to 7-9 on the season.
Philadelphia boys 72, West Lauderdale 63: Also in the Neshoba tourney, Philadelphia jumped to a five-point lead after one quarter and held on for the win over West.
The Knights were down just five heading into the final quarter, but couldn't get over the hump.
Calvin Moore pumped in 26 points in the loss for West Lauderdale, which fell to 8-11. Philly improved to 10-8.
Neshoba Central girls 57, Kosciusko 29: The Lady Rockets also opened play in their own tournament with an easy win, coasting to a 35-16 lead at halftime to blow past Kosciusko.
The Lady Rockets, who are now 13-6, got 16 points from Lena Tucker and 10 points from Bonnie Lewis.
Wayne County girls 53, Magee 36: The Lady War Eagles ran their record to 14-3 on the year with a 17-point victory over Magee in the Northeast Jones Tournament Thursday.
Wayne County, which led 24-13 at halftime, was led by Natalie Jordan's 14 points. The Lady War Eagles, who play host NE Jones tonight, led 24-13 at halftime.
Magee got 15 points from Renee Fields.
Wayne County boys 69, Magee 46: The War Eagles were also victorious Thursday in the Northeast Jones Tournament, as Geary Jackson's bunch improved to 14-2 on the season with an easy win over Magee.
Dietrick Slater led Wayne County with 19 points, while Rayford Everett and John Gray were also in double figures with 14 and 11 points, respectively.
Tonight, the War Eagles take on Northeast Jones in tourney action at 7:30 p.m.
Lake girls 57, Morton 35: The Lady Hornets ran their record to 12-3 on the season with a solid win over Morton, which fell to 14-7.
Lake exploded to a 37-16 lead at halftime and coasted to the victory.
Kim Cox scored 17 points to lead the Lady Hornets, while Kimyatta Viverette pumped in 14 and Roxana Rogers scored 10.
Newton County Academy girls 62, Wayne Academy 38: The Lady Generals got 15 points and nine rebounds from Ashley Callaghan as NCA's girls pounced on Wayne.
Brandi Upton scored 13 points for the Lady Generals, while Kristen Rice pulled in 13 rebounds and Candi Chesney had seven boards.
Wayne was led by Janna Revette's 14 points.
Sumter Academy girls 49, Marengo Academy 15: The Lady Eagles jumped to a commanding 23-0 lead after one quarter and coasted to an easy win over Marengo.
Jess Watkins scored a game-high 15 points to lead Sumter, which improved to 9-1. The Lady Eagles, ranked ninth in the latest AISA poll, also got eight points from Meredith Edmonds.
Wesley Ann Pope led Marengo with seven points.
Sumter hosts Marion Military Institute today.
Marengo Academy boys 56, Sumter Academy 49: The Eagles weren't quite as fortunate, dropping a tight one to Marengo Thursday.
Sumter, which is now 5-5, lost despite 17 points from John Upchurch. The Eagles also got 12 points apiece from Shane Martin and Chase Schroeder.
Patrician Academy girls 62, Jackson (Ala.) Academy 29: The Lady Saints ran their mark to 9-4 with an easy win over Jackson Academy.
Leslie Goodman led a balanced attack for Patrician, scoring a game-high 11 points. Stephanie Guinn, Brooke Norris and Kirby Baxter had nine points apiece.
Molly Bolut led Jackson with seven points.
Late Wednesday
Sumter County boys 50, Southern Choctaw 41: The Wildcats ran their record to 13-1 behind the scoring touch of Ferrell Collins and Jeremy Law, who had 12 and nine points, respectively.
The homestanding Indians remained competitive by getting 11-point contributions from Shaun Causey and nine points out of Terrell McGrew. Marques Hill wiped the glass for 11 rebounds and also had eight points.
The Wildcats eased away from the host Indians in the final frame, but Southern Choctaw coach Dana Thomas was pleased with the effort.
Patrician Academy girls 63, Catherine Academy 10: The Lady Saints (8-4) jumped all over Catherine (1-10) with a 21-2 first-quarter burst and never looked back in the lopsided rout Wednesday night.
Stephanie Guinn led the way with 15 points for Patrician, while teammates Brooke Norris, Brooke Dobbins and Leslie Goodman all added 10.
The onslaught continued in the second frame as the Lady Saints outscored the visitors 16-3. In the third, however, the offense dried up as both teams only managed a bucket each.
