Russellville 13 and 14 All-Stars win sub-district
MUSCLE SHOALS —The Russellville 13 and 14 All-Stars swept the sub-district tournament at Muscle Shoals, going 5-0 and winning the championship game 13-0 over Haleyville.
The Golden Tigers will move on to the district tournament, which will be played in the same location with the same six teams.
“We stayed in the winner’s bracket throughout the tournament,” Russellville head coach Kevin Greenhill said.
“We were behind in four of the five games, but we kept finding a way to come back and win with our bats.
“This is good for the confidence of our kids because we were behind in most of the games.
“They showed a lot of heart to come back so many times.”
Russellville left no doubt in the championship game against Haleyville who the top team of the tournament was.
Cody Greenhill pitched a one-hit shutout in five innings for the Golden Tigers, with six strikeouts and only one walk.
Judd Ward led the offensive attack for Russellville, going 4-4 at the plate. He scored three times and had a triple, two doubles and a single.
Austin Kitterman and Trey Williams both went 3-4 with a double and two singles, and Payton Nichols went 2-3 with a home run and a single.
“Our pitching was strong,” Coach Greenhill said.
“Our team plays well together.”
