Middle school roofing to cost $611K

RUSSELLVILLE — City school board members have approved a $611,000 bid to reroof the middle school.

The board received 11 sealed bids, awarding the contract to Roofing Solutions, LLC, the lowest bidder.

The remaining bids were:

• Roofing Technology Partners, LLC, $692,913

• Standard Roofing of Montgomery, Inc., $702,787

• Garner & Associates, LLC, $731,800

• Johns & Kirksey, Inc., $758,000

• Advanced Roofing Solutions, LLC, $767,000

• Mid-Western Commercial Roofers, Inc., $769,720

• Industrial Roofing & Construction, LLC, $776,225

• MG Roofing, Inc., $855,198

• Alabama Roofing & Sheet Metal, Inc., $866,000

• Mid America Roofing, Inc., $872,112 Superintendent Tim Guinn said the roof of the school’s main building was heavily damaged during a spring hailstorm.

He said rain from the same storm damaged furniture, ceiling tiles, electronics, and reading materials inside the building. Those items are being replaced through the district’s property insurance.

Guinn said the district installed a temporary cover on the building immediately after the storm to prevent additional water damage while the roof replacement project moved through the required approval process.

He said the Alabama Department of Finance’s Division of Construction Management requires roofing replacements beyond basic maintenance to go through a state architect, be reviewed and approved by the state, and be publicly bid before a contractor can be selected.

Guinn said the district has not yet signed a contract with Roofing Solutions, LLC. He expects work to begin near the end of August and, weather permitting, be completed sometime during the fall semester.

In other business, the board approved annual contracts for behavior analysis, physical therapy, occupational therapy, student assessment services, and mental health services.

The contracts are with Bridges Behavior Therapy & Consulting, REACH Pediatrics Therapy Services, Stepping Stone Pediatric Therapy, JB Education Solutions, Riverbend Center for Mental Health, Athens Behavior Therapy and The Healing Place.

Guinn said the district renews the specialized service contracts each year and that similar agreements are common among school systems across Alabama.

“We feel privileged to partner with these professional groups that have proven to be some of the best in their field,” he said. “The children who receive their services find their lives significantly enriched by working with them.”
