Sales tax holidays renewed

RUSSELLVILLE Franklin County shoppers will once again benefit from two annual tax holidays following action by county commissioners.

Commissioners approved resolutions to continue participating in Alabama’s Back-to-School sales tax holiday and the severe weather preparedness sales tax holiday.

“These holidays provide meaningful savings for families and also help support our local retailers,” saidCountyAdministrator Leah Mansell.

Franklin County’s share of these sales tax purchases goes directly to local schools.

“The county doesn’t get any of that sales tax,” Mansell said.

The back-to-school tax holiday is scheduled for July 19–21. Shoppers can purchase a range of school-related items free from state and county sales tax.

The severe weather preparedness holiday will be Feb. 21–23, 2026. It allows shoppers to buy emergency supplies, such as batteries, flashlights, weather radios, tarps, and portable generators without paying sales tax.

Both holidays are part of statewide programs coordinated through the Alabama Department of Revenue. While cities and counties can opt out, Franklin County has participated in both for several years.
