Phil Campbell clinches season series over Belgreen

The Phil Campbell Bobcats secured the season series against the Belgreen Bulldogs with a hard-fought 42-30 victory in a low-scoring affair. The win marks Phil Campbell’s second victory over Belgreen in their three meetings this season.

From the opening tip, it was clear that defense would be the story of the night. Both teams struggled to find consistent offensive rhythm, resulting in a tight first quarter. Phil Campbell held a slim 8-7 lead after the first eight minutes of play.

The Bobcats began to create separation in the second quarter, outscoring the Bulldogs and taking a commanding 20-9 lead into halftime. Phil Campbell’s defensive pressure proved to be a major factor, disrupting Belgreen’s offensive flow and forcing turnovers.

Coming out of the break,Belgreenattempted to close the gap, but Phil Campbell maintained its composure. The Bobcats held a 26-19 advantage at the end of the third quarter, setting the stage for a crucial final period.

Phil Campbell sealed the victory in the fourth, outscoring Belgreen 16-11. Their consistent defensive effort and timely baskets proved to be the difference in the game.

Hayden Wingo led the charge for the Bobcats, scoring a game-high 17 points. Logan Wright also reached double figures with 10 points. Bailey Nix and Isaac Duboise each contributed 4 points, while Madden Welch added 3and Austin Elliott chipped in 2.

Belgreen struggled to find offensive consistency throughout the game. Jonathan Mendoza and Hunter Woodruff led the Bulldogs with 8 points apiece. Aaron Rubido added 6, while Braycen Johnson, Belgreen’s leading scorer for the season, was held to just 4 points by a stifling Phil Campbell defense. Jake Dill scored 3, and Rush Berryman added 1.

Phil Campbell’s ability to contain Johnson proved to be a key factor in the outcome. Their defensive game plan clearly focused on limiting his touches and disrupting his rhythm, effectively shutting down a significant part of Belgreen’s offensive attack.

Phil Campbell 59, Phillips 50

Austin Elliott scored 27 points to lead Phil Campbell past neighboring Phillips High School, 59-50.

The Bobcats trailed the Bears 27-26 at halftime but dominated the third quarter to take a 44-33 lead into the final period.
