Franklin County basketball teams compete

Belgreen girls pick up three wins

The Belgreen girls basketball team had a solid week leading up to Christmas beating New Site, Tharptown and Cherokee. The Bulldogs lost a close one to Russellville.

In the lone area contests of the week, Belgreen beat Tharptown, 67-13.

Belgreen dominated the game from the start, leading 22-4 at the end of the first quarter and 42-7 at halftime.

Dacota Green led the Bulldogs with 17 points followed by Mackinley Hogan with 10 points. Isabella Tate added eight points, Bryn Scott seven points, Carson Hovater seven points, Lily Green six points, Makenna Fisher four points, Lilliana Willingham three points and Alayana Tate three points.

For Tharptown, Carly Cason scored four points, Maddaline Amaro three points, Aalivia Wilson three points, Adrianna Ashley two points and Ashton Tharp one point.

Belgreen beats New Site (MS) 46-40.

New Site jumped out to a 17-13 first quarter lead and extended their lead to 26-21 by halftime. Belgreen, however, owned the second half cutting New Site’s lead to 32-30 at the end of the third quarter and blowing past the opposition in the fourth quarter 16-8 to take the win.

Makenna Fisher led Belgreen with 15 points. Dacota Green added nine points, Bryn Scott eight points, Lilliana Willilngham six points, Isabella Tate three points, Jacqueline Alban two points, Randi Terry two points and Alayna Tate one point.

Belgreen easily beat Cherokee 46-22. The Bulldogs led the Indians 24-8 at halftime and 36-14 at the end of the third quarter.

Dacota Green led with 18 points, followed by Lilliana Willingham with10 points. Carson Hovater added six points, Makenna Fisher four points, Isabella Tate three points, Mackinley Hogan three points and Alayana Tate two points. Baker scores 36 in win over Shoals Christian Leela Baker had a career performance scoring 36 points to lead the Phil Campbell Bobcats past the Shoals Christian Flame, 70-54.

Baker scored 22 of her 36 points in the first half helping Phil Campbell to a 35-28 halftime lead over the Flame.

Macy Hardy followed Baker with 16 points and Sidda Rogers with 12 points. Mia Ambrosio added four points and Kaylie Motes two points.

In the boys’ game, Hayden Wingo led Phil Campbell to an easy 72-50 win over the Flame.

Wingo scored 23 points to lead the Bobcats.

Phil Campbell led 21-14 at the end of the opening quarter and had extended the lead to 49-24 by halftime. The Bobcats led by as many as 32 points in the second half of the game.

Austin Elliott and Isaac Duboise followed Wingo scoring 10 points each.

Madden Welch added nine points, Shooter Motes eight points, Logan Wright eight points and Bailey Nix four points.

Phil Campbell girls pick up a pair of wins The Phil Campbell varsity girls picked up a pair of wins at a Winston County holiday tournament, beating Carbon Hill, 46-15, and Addison, 58-30.

Macy Hardy led the Bobcats past Carbon Hill. The Bulldogs proved no match for the Bobcats with Phil Campbell leading 17-1 at the end of the first quarter and 44-8 at the end of the third quarter.

Hardy scored 24 points to lead the way for the Bobcats followed by Leela Baker with 10 points. Sidda Rogers added four points, Mia Ambrosio three points, Kaylie Motes three points and Chaley Bullington two points.

Hardy also led Phil Campbell against Addison on the following day, scoring 24 points again, this time to beat Addison 58-30.

Phil Campbell led 31-16 at halftime and 46-24 at the end of the third quarter.

Leela Baker followed Hardy with 18 points. Sidda Rogers added six points, Mia Ambrosio four points, Lily Stewart four points, and Kaylie Motes two points.

Vina picks up win

The Vina Red Devils picked up their fourth win of the season, beating the Berry Wildcats 49-30.

Vina (4-10) was led by Khylee Brooks with 17 points and 21 rebounds and Layla Hester with 10 points and 10 assists. Claire McCarley and Braxtyn Quinn both had nine points each and five rebounds each. The Lady Red Devils will play in the Waterloo Christmas Tournament next week.

Vina junior high girls(16-3) picked up their 16th win of the season against Berry juniors (the number one seed in the Fayette County junior tournament) with a 35-26 win. Vina juniors played in the Franklin County Championship game against Red Bay.
