Cottons for Christmas Sock Drive

Now-Dec. 2

The Franklin County Women’s Leadership Committee, a division of the Alabama Farmers Federation, is seeking donations for its annual “Cottons for Christmas” sock drive. Donations can be made at the Franklin County Courthouse/ Extension Office (leave donations with one of the courthouse guards), ALFA Insurance in Russellville and ALFA Insurance in Red Bay. Take sock donations to one of the listed locations by Dec. 2. For questions, contact Carol Glass at 256-810-5446 or Shannon Murray at 256668-3893.

Veterans Dinner, North Highlands Church of Christ

Nov. 7

On Nov. 7, North Highlands Church of Christ in Russellville will host a Veterans Day dinner. This will include both the VFW and American Legion. Those wishing to attend should RSVP by contacting Grant Atkins at 256-627-2866.

BTCPA play, “The Crazy Quilt Club”

Nov. 7-10 The Bay Tree Council for the Performing Arts will perform “The Crazy Quilt Club” by Pat Cook, directed by Brittany Faris, Nov. 7-10, at the Weatherford Centre in downtown Red Bay. Performances will take place Nov. 7-9 at 7 p.m. and Nov. 10 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10. Meals cost $20. To reserve tickets, call 256356-9829. For group sales, contact Beth Hammock at 256-668-0045. Groups can attend anytime, but Thursday nights are set aside for meals for groups and anyone else who is interested.

Phil Campbell Christmas Bazaar

Nov. 9

This year’s Phil Campbell Christmas Bazaar takes place Nov. 9 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 132 Sherry Bryce Drive in Phil Campbell. For more information, call Lynn Landers at 256-810-4572.

Russellville Veterans Day Celebration

Nov. 9

At 11 a.m. on Nov. 9, the local VFW chapter will lay a wreath for fallen veterans at the Franklin County Courthouse. Directly after, they will meet at the A.W. Todd Centre to line up for the annual Veterans Day parade. The parade will start at 12 p.m. The grand marshals will be Vietnam veterans. Any veteran who wishes to march can do so. Those who need or want to ride in the parade will be given a spot. Immediately after the parade, the VFW will pull the winning ticket for their rifle giveaway. After calling to notify the winner, if enough VFW members are left, a meeting will take place at the A.W. Todd Centre. Interested parties who qualify will be sponsored for VFW membership. Some of the VFW members will go to the VFW building to judge scholarship competition to determine what to send to district.

State of the Schools

Nov. 21

The Franklin County Chamber of Commerce invites the community to learn about the state of the schools (Franklin County, Russellville City and NWSCC) on the Phil Campbell campus of Northwest-Shoals Community College on Nov. 21 at 6 p.m.

Christmas at City Lake

Nov. 30 – Jan. 1

Russellville Hospital’s annual Christmas at City Lake is approaching. Trees ($140) and selfie stations ($225) are on sale now. Tree selection takes place Nov. 30 at 8 a.m. Dates to decorate begin Nov. 30 and go through Dec. 4 at 12 p.m. Trees will be lit immediately after the Russellville Christmas Parade (Dec. 5) and will remain lit until Jan. 1. Red Bay Tree Lighting

Dec. 1

Red Bay’s Tree Lighting event, including performances by local musical groups, will be held in Bay Tree Park Dec. 1 at 5 p.m.

Christmas Parades

Dec. 2, 3, 5, 12

Christmas parades are held throughout Franklin County. Red Bay’s parade will be Dec. 2. Vina’s parade will be the following evening, Dec. 3. Russellville’s parade will be Dec. 5. Phil Campbell will wrap the Christmas parade season Dec. 12. All parades are at 6 p.m. Access parade applications through the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce website or by contacting the cities’ respective city halls.

Christmas on Sloss Lake

Dec. 8

Christmas on Sloss Lake returns this year to Sloss Lake Park in Russellville, Dec. 8 from 1-7 p.m. There will be food trucks, holiday shopping and music, inflatables for children and more. A visit from Santa will happen at 5 p.m., followed by a Christmas show at 5:30 p.m., which will end with a live nativity. The event is hosted by Purpose. The Roxy’s Christmas Spectacular

Dec. 11-15 The Roxy’s Christmas Spectacular will take the stage with public performances Dec. 11-15. For tickets and more information visit the show’s Facebook page.

Al-Anon

Al-Anon meets every Thursday at 6 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in downtown Russellville across from the Roxy Theatre.

American Legion

American Legion Post 64 regularly meets the second Thursday of every month at the North Highlands Church of Christ fellowship hall, with the meal at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting at 7 p.m.

Alzheimer’s Support

The Alzheimer’s Support meeting is held at 10 a.m. on the third Tuesday of every month at Generations of Red Bay. For more information call 256-356-4982.

Farmers Markets

The Phil Campbell Farmers Market is set up in front of Town Hall Fridays and Saturdays. For more information, call 205-993-5313. The Red Bay Farmers Market is open Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Family Fun Park. For more information, call 256-332-8880. The Russellville Farmers Market is open Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, next to the A.W. Todd Centre in downtown Russellville, from 6 a.m. to noon. For more information, call 256-332-8880.
