Belgreen secures playoff spot with sweep of Phillips

The Belgreen Bulldogs secured a playoff spot for the second straight year with a sweep of the Phillips Bears. The Bulldogs play Hackleburg this week for the area championship.

In game one of the series, Belgreen used 10 hits and 15 walks to blow the Bears out 25-2. Belgreen outscored Phillips 11-1 in the first inning and 14-1 in the second inning to leave no doubt about the gap between the two teams.

Belgreen got doubles from Alex Guidry, Ty Hamilton and Will King.

Guidry had three RBI and scored three times. Hamilton had two RBI and scored once. King had one hit, three RBI, walked three times and scored four runs.

King also got the win on the mound, allowing just one hit and striking out six.

Rush Berryman had a hit, three RBI and scored four times from the leadoff spot. Landon Cox also scored four times. He had two hits and walked twice.

In game two, Belgreen put the game away quickly, scoring 18 runs in the first inning and winning 19-5.

Cox led the way at the plate for the Bulldogs going 3-for-3 with two RBI and scoring twice. Berryman walked three times and scored all three times.

Emiliano Jimenez scored three runs. Guidry, Hamilton, Hunter Woodruff, Konner Trapp and Colton Ashton all scored two runs each.

Guidry got the win for the Bulldogs, allowing two hits and striking out four.

Belgreen 13, Shoals Christian 3

Belgreen led the Shoals Christian Flame 4-0 going into the third inning where the Bulldogs put the game away scoring eight to win 13-3.

Will King and Ty Hamilton doubled for the Bulldogs. King had an additional two hits and scored twice. Hamilton also added a single and scored twice.

Cox got the win, going five innings and striking out seven.

Belgreen softball tops Florence

The Belgreen Bulldogs topped Class 7A Florence Falcons with a walkoff win in the bottom of the seventh inning last week, 7-6.

With the game tied at six in the bottom of the seventh inning, Caleigh Lawson hit a solo home run to left field to lift the Bulldogs to the big win.

Lawson also homered in the third inning with another solo shot.

Florence got on the board first, scoring two runs to open the game.  Belgreen responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning on a double by Bryn Scott.

Belgreen took a 3-2 lead on the Lawson home run in the third, but Florence regained the lead in the top of the fifth.

Belgreen tied the game in the bottom of the fifth on a walk by Scott and a sacrifice fly by Lawson.

Florence took the lead again in the top of the seventh inning, 6-5.

In the Bobcat of the seventh, Scott singled in a run to tie the game and Lawson won it on the home run.

Hannah Borden got the win for the Bulldogs in the circle.
