Letter to the Editor: Great Pretenders sees another successful year
Dear Editor,
On behalf of the Franklin County Arts and Humanities Council, Inc. I want to thank all the performers, sponsors, and supporters of the “W. C. Handy Evening at the Roxy with the Great Pretenders.” It was a huge success!
This year marked the 22nd year for the Arts Council to support the 42nd annual W. C. Handy Music Festival. Each year, the Great Pretenders show seems to grow. We have a lot of outstanding local talents, and we are so pleased to have this program for them. The Arts Council is so appreciative of the community support of the W. C. Handy Evening at The Roxy.
Chase Sparks did a great job serving as emcee. To start the program, a prelude was presented by the band Still Here Gospel Group. The band consisted of Rev. Johnnie Smith; Bros. Larry Freeman; Bryant Bonds; William Nelson; Eric Goodloe; Willie Buchanan; Frankie Hubbard; Joel Franks. Their outstanding performance was in memory of Rev. William Freeman; Bro. Jack Freeman; and Bro. Wash Bates.
