Lady Golden Tigers travel for early-season tournament

Russellville’s varsity softball team faced a trip to West Morgan, and the Lady Golden Tigers also participated in the Wetumpka Tournament, during recent action.

West Morgan 6, Russellville 1

RHS went to West Morgan Feb. 28, and the Rebels got the win. West Morgan outhit Russellville 7-5, with Jaiden Calvert picking up the only extra-base hit for the Lady Tigers.

Also hitting safely for RHS were Summer Butler, Emma Campbell, Brooklyn Butler and Natalie Nichols, all with singles. Brooklyn Butler had the Russellville RBI.

Addison Holcomb and Paislee James did the pitching for RHS.

Russellville 3, Stanhope Elmore 2

The Wetumpka Tourney got underway March 3 for Russellville, and the Golden Tigers got the victory on a game-winning RBI single by Nichols in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Calvert had a double and the other Russellville RBI. Summer Butler, Emma Campbell and Brooklyn Butler also had hits.

James pitched a complete game for the win. She allowed two earned runs on four hits, and she struck out three and issued no walks.

Tallassee 4, Russellville 1

Game two of the night for RHS in the Wetumpka Tournament went the way of the Tallassee Tigers in a four-inning contest.

Brooklyn Butler had a double, and Jenna Whitfield added a hit and a RBI. Holcomb and James also had hits. Brooklyn Butler pitched two innings, and she was followed by Holcomb in the circle.

Benjamin Russell 5, Russellville 4

The Wetumpka Tournament wrapped up March 4 for the Lady Golden Tigers with a close loss to the Wildcats.

Russellville (2-6) jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two innings but couldn’t hold on for the win in the six-inning game.

Holcomb hit a home run for RHS and had two RBIs. James added a triple and an RBI, and Whitfield doubled and scored twice. Additional Russellville hits were by Brooklyn Butler and Kristin McGlaughn.

Holcomb and James did the pitching. James allowed no runs while pitching the game’s final inning.
