Tharptown senior signs with Army

Marcus Jeffreys, senior at Tharptown High School, was joined by Sgt. Bradley Willingham, a recruiter for Franklin County, for his signing for the U.S. Army at the school Feb. 22.

Jeffreys said he felt drawn to serve his country in this way, adding it’s a positive environment where he can learn discipline to improve his work ethic and overall character.

“I want to do my part by becoming an effective leader and making a difference, while accomplishing and overcoming anything life throws my way,” Jeffreys said. He said joining the Army is a dream he has “chased” since he was little.

“I feel like God wants me to do this,” he added.

The son of Kara Channel, his aunt and uncle are Carly and Tynes Channel.

After graduation, Jeffreys will go to Fort Jackson in South Carolina for two weeks then attend basic training at Fort Benning, Georgia. His military occupational specialty will be infantryman.
