Basketball begins

The Tharptown Tip-Off Tournament is the traditional start to basketball season in Franklin County. Although some newer tournaments start earlier now, the Tharptown Tip-Off Tournament has been in existence for more than 30 years.

Several teams were in action Saturday, with games starting at 9 a.m. The last game ended 12 hours later, with teams slated for the finals Thursday beginning at 4 p.m.

Phil Campbell will play East Franklin in the ninth-grade girls division at 4 p.m. Lindsay Lane will play Addison in the seventh-eighth-grade boys division at 5 p.m.

Belgreen and Deshler will be the nightcap action: The Bulldogs and Tigers will face off in the seventh-eighth-grade girls division at 6 p.m. and the ninth-grade boys division at 7 p.m.
