Phil Campbell easily advances to round two

The Phil Campbell Bobcats made quick work of the Saks Wildcats to advance to the second round of their Class 3A title defense. Phil Campbell limited Saks to three hits in the entire series and outscored the Wildcats 28-1.

The Bobcats (23-6) will travel to Plainview (25-5) to play the Bears Friday. Game one will begin at 5 p.m. Game two will be at 7 p.m. If a game three is necessary, it will be played Saturday at noon.

In game one, Cam Habada threw a one-hit shutout of the Wildcats, helping the Bobcats to an easy 13-0 win.

Habada struck out 11 batters and walked two. He also had an RBI triple and scored twice.

Phil Campbell put the game away quickly with a nine-run first inning. The Bobcats added two more runs in the third and two in the fourth.

Some shaky pitching put Bobcats on the base paths early. Leading 2-0 with bases loaded, Bryant Hyde placed Saks’ pitch perfectly down the right field line, scoring two more, giving Phil Campbell a 4-0 lead.

Phil Campbell added five more runs on RBI singles by Jacob Barnwell, Sage Raper and Mason Swinney.

Habada’s triple in the bottom of the third inning gave the Bobcats a 10-0 lead.

Game two was almost a replica of game one. Phil Campbell put the game away early again with an eight-run first inning, adding insurance runs in the fourth and fifth innings. The Bobcats had 12 hits in the game.

Bryant Anthony led the way at the plate for Phil Campbell, going four-forfive, including a triple, from the top of the lineup, with four RBIs, and scoring two runs.

Cole Pace went two-for-three with four RBIs and scored a run. He also went the distance on the mound, allowing two hits and striking out eight.

Hunter Baker had two RBIs and scored two runs. Swinney, Habada, Kyle Pace and Hyde scored two runs each.
