RHS tennis season heats up as section tournament nears

The Russellville High School tennis teams are busy competing as the regular season is nearing an end. The Golden Tigers played host to section opponent Deshler High School March 29 in both boys’ and girls’ action.

Russellville’s girls have put together another outstanding season under head coach Charlotte Dollar, while the boys are also playing well for head coach Ben Phillips. RHS will host the upcoming section tournament with spots in the state tourney on the line. Section play is scheduled to begin April 11, and finals are slated for April 12. State competition will be held in Mobile.

GIRLS: Russellville 8, Deshler 1

In singles action, Russellville wins included RHS’ No. 1 Peyton Parrish – 6-1, 6-0 over Deshler’s Lauren Hand; No. 2 Sofia Tiffin – 6-2, 6-1 over Anna Lee Hester; No. 3 Natalie Busler – 6-2, 6-3 over Rosie Thompson; No. 4 Avary Miller – 6-3, 6-2 over Landen McCalpin; and No. 5 Addie Strickland – 6-4, 6-2 over Kaylee Bennett. Deshler No. 6 AK Johnson grabbed the 2-6, 6-4, 10-6 win over RHS’ Kinsley Palmer.

In doubles action, Parrish and Tiffin got the 6-0, 6-0 win over Deshler’s Hand and Bennett. RHS’ Busler and Miller won 6-0, 6-3 over Deshler’s Hester and Thompson. RHS’ Madeline Cooper and Leah Rushing went 6-0, 6-2 over Deshler’s Johnson and Katie Trowbridge.
