Lady Golden Tigers use balanced attack to get softball wins

The Russellville varsity softball team recently earned two wins to improve their record on the season to 10-6.

March 14 the Lady Golden Tigers went to Lauderdale County and got a 10-0 victory in five innings.

The top of the batting order for Russellville was on fire, with the first five starting hitters going a combined 14 for 18 during the contest. Summer Butler and Tori Tiffin were a perfect eight for eight, with each getting four hits apiece. Jenna Whitfield, Jacey Moore and Jaiden Calvert followed with two hits each, with Whitfield picking up a double.

Addison Holcomb and Paislee James also hit safely and scored runs for RHS.

Whitfield had four RBIs to lead the team, while Butler, Tiffin, Moore and Calvert drove in one each.

Holcomb went the distance in the pitching circle. She threw 101 pitches and scattered seven hits. The RHS pitcher struck out five and walked two.

Russellville 5, Haleyville 1

Moore was a standout in the pitching circle and with the bat during a 5-1 Russellville home win over the Haleyville Lady Lions March 17.

Moore pitched a complete game, allowing only a seventh-inning run. The right-hander struck out 10, walked one and gave up six hits. At the plate, Moore was two for three with a double, an RBI and a run scored.

Tiffin and Maddy Green each had two hits for RHS, and they were joined in the hit column by Holcomb. Tiffin added two runs, and Green scored once. Melissa Aparisio picked up an RBI by being hit with a pitch, and James drove in a run on a fielder’s choice.

“Jacey shut them down in the circle,” Russellville head coach Josh Graham said after the win over Haleyville. “She had 10 strike outs, and we played really good defense behind her. Anytime we can get that type of performance out of our pitching, our defense is going to be good enough to play behind them, and we did that today.

“At the plate, we had some timely hitting, and we’ve been working really hard on our swings lately.”
