Russellville softball splits four with Shoals opponents

The Russellville varsity softball team recently split four games, with three of the four contests taking place on their home field. Included in the game action was Lady Golden Tigers’ annual Spring Frenzy tournament, which was cut short this season because of weather.

Mars Hill 10, Russellville 0

RHS traveled to Florence March 7 for a game against Mars Hill.

It took five innings for the Lady Panthers to get the victory. Tori Tiffin got the only Russellville hit. Addison Holcomb and Tiffin did the pitching for RHS.

Russellville 11, Florence 1

A nine-run fourth inning broke a 1-1 tie, as the Lady Golden Tigers beat Florence for the second time this season. Russellville added a run in the bottom of the fifth inning to finish the game in front of the home crowd.

Jacey Moore got the start in the pitching circle and went the distance. She struck out six and walked none. Moore also had a big game at the plate, smacking two hits, with one being a double. She drove in a run, scored twice and walked once.

Jenna Whitfield also had two hits and was joined in the hit column by Melissa Aparisio, Jaiden Calvert and Addison Holcomb.

“We really weren’t making adjustments on the slower pitching, and I had to get onto them a little bit and remind them of the things that we’ve been working on the past two days,” said Russellville head coach Josh Graham. “They made some mistakes to help us get into that inning, but we made them pay for those mistakes by the adjustments that we made at the plate.”

Lauderdale County 4, Russellville 0

The Spring Frenzy tournament got underway March 11 in Russellville. LCHS kept the Lady Golden Tigers getting off to a winning start in the event.

RHS had four hits in the contest, with Jaiden Calvert picking up two singles. Summer Butler and Moore also hit safely.

Doing the pitching for Russellville was Paislee James.

Russellville 1, Deshler 0

Game two of the day for RHS in the Spring Frenzy was a short one. Russellville (8-6) and Deshler played a little more than two innings, and the Lady Golden Tigers were ahead 1-0, when play was stopped.

Tori Tiffin did the pitching for Russellville and gave up one hit during 2.1 innings of work. She struck out three and walked one.

Tiffin also had a hit, stole a base and scored the only RHS run.
