PC begins title defense with wins

The Phil Campbell Bobcats’ Class 3A title defense began Saturday like it ended this past May – with winning.

Phil Campbell defeated Lamar County 15-1 and Colbert County 11-1.

Senior shortstop Mason Swinney hit two home runs in the opening game against Lamar County. The University of Alabama signee went three-for-three with five RBIs.

Junior Sage Raper went three-for-four and scored three runs. Junior Kyle Pace went three-for-four with a double, RBI and two runs scored.

Junior Cole Pace was strong on the mound, giving up one hit, no runs and four strikeouts.

In game two against Colbert County, Swinney and junior Hunter Baker both had two-run doubles in a nine-run fourth inning that broke the game open for the Bobcats.

Swinney went one-for-two with a walk and was hit by a pitch. Baker was two-for-three with two RBIs. Cam Habada went one-for-two with two walks and scored two runs. Junior Bryant Anthony walked twice and scored two runs.

Habada dominated on the mound, striking out eight batters in three innings. The junior allowed one hit, no runs, and he walked three.

The Bobcats open the season 2-0.
