Vina closes regular season on hot streak

The Vina Red Devils are playing their best at the right time. The Vina girls picked up their 11th win of the season this past week and closed out the regular season winning six of their past seven games.

Vina 58, Waterloo 49

Vina beat Waterloo to close out the regular season on a winning note. The Red Devils topped the Cougars 58-49.

Waterloo led 11-8 at the end of the first quarter, but Vina claimed a 16-15 lead by halftime. Vina extended that lead to 39-29 at the end of the third quarter and held on for the win.

Sara Scott led Vina with 18 points followed by Kaitlyn Athey with 15 points and Sara Harper with 11 points. K.K. Mitchell added seven points, Kaley Attaway six points and Hailey Cantrell one point.

Vina 54, Brilliant 30

Scott scored 19 points, and Athey scored 17 points, to lead Vina in a 54-30 blowout win over Brilliant.

Vina jumped out to a 15-5 first quarter lead and had the game put away by halftime, leading 31-8.

Autumn Chandler added five points, Harper three points, Jalyn Shotts three points, Attaway two points, Mitchell two points and Abbie Petree one point.

Vina 48, Hubbertville 38

Vina beat the Hubbertville Lions 48-38 early last week.

Vina led 25-20 at halftime and 36-28 at the end of the third quarter.

Scott led Vina with 13 points. Athey and Harper scored nine points each. Attaway added seven points, Cantrell five points, Mitchell three points and Abbie Petree two points.
