Red Bay wins Franklin County Volleyball Tournament

In the second year of their program, the Red Bay Tigers have won the Franklin County Volleyball Tournament, which took place at Belgreen Saturday.

“Saturday was an amazing day,” said Red Bay Coach Amanda Ledbetter. “All three Red Bay teams gave their heart and soul on that court, and I couldn’t be prouder.

“At the beginning of this season, I asked the girls to work hard and push themselves to get better every day,” she added, “and they did. I am so proud to be their coach.”

The Tigers beat Phil Campbell and Belgreen en route to the championship.

Red Bay had to go three sets against the upstart Bobcats, winning two of three sets: 25-20, 20-25 and 15-12.

In the finals, the Tiger girls beat Belgreen in two straight sets, 25-23 and 26-24.

Red Bay also won the junior high tournament, and Belgreen won the junior varsity tournament.

“I am proud of our girls. They played so hard today,” said Belgreen coach Susie Tverberg. “I love this group of girls! Runnerup will do when you work hard for it.”

In all of the divisions, the four teams – Belgreen, Phil Campbell, Red Bay and Tharptown – played pool play games. At the end, the teams were seeded by record to play the tournament.
