PC standout signs with Wallace State

Phil Campbell standout baseball player Ridge Raper will continue his baseball career at Wallace State in Hanceville, signing a scholarship with the Lions this past week.

As a pitcher, Raper has started in 24 games and has a record of 17-2 – despite the coronavirus-shortened 2020 season.

His career earned run average is 1.74. Opponents’ batting average against the righthander is .180. He has 178 career strikeouts and has allowed 37 runs.

As a hitter, Raper has a career batting average of .362 and an on base percentage of .483. He has 112 hits.

Wallace State signed Raper as a pitcher, but his versatility in the field and at the plate could allow the Lions to use him elsewhere.

“It’s a dream come true,” said Raper. “Ever since I was a little, I’ve dreamed of playing college baseball and major league baseball, just like any other little baseball player.

Raper says his father, Jonathan Raper, who doubles as his head baseball coach, has been a blessing. “I’m very fortunate for my dad always being there for me, pushing me and helping me along the way.”
