Belgreen sweeps Phillips

The Belgreen Bulldogs held off a late rally by the Phillips Bears to win 5-3 and complete a two-game sweep of their area rival.

Belgreen got on the board first when Phillips walked in Canaan Stough to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead.

Phillips tied the game in the top of the third inning, but the Bulldogs responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a 3-1 lead.

Will Donahoe scored on a Carson Cox single. Brady Hovater scored on an error.

Belgreen added to the lead in the bottom of the fourth, with Will King and Jacob Fleming scoring to give the Bulldogs a 5-1 lead.

Phillips added two in the top of the fifth inning, but the Bulldogs stopped the Bears and held on for the win.

Cox got the win, pitching four and a third innings and striking out seven batters.

In game one of the series, Belgreen pummeled the Bears 14-4. The Bulldogs pounded out 10 hits and took advantage of three Phillips errors.

Stough had a solid game at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs and scoring three runs. Cole King and Donahoe also had two RBIs.

Stough got the complete game win, striking out seven batters.
